New Yellowstone Jail Sidelined

Laramie, WY – Jail cells are no longer part of a justice center project at Yellowstone National Park. They've been sidelined for now, to save money.

Construction began this summer at Mammoth Hot Springs, to replace a crowded courthouse. Space is so tight that lawyers
sometimes meet with clients outside, in cars.

Sidelining the detention wing leaves Yellowstone with a nearly 100-year-old building for temporary confinement of people in criminal cases.

Vickie Roseberry is the park's manager for the $5.3 million construction project. She says the wing with jail cells is now being designated a second phase of the project, and she's unsure when that part of the construction will take place.
