Noted Laramie residents die

Laramie, Wy – Two notable Laramie residents have died. Longtime U-W reference librarian Emmett Chisum and former U-W faculty member and Laramie activist John Hanks were 91. Hanks was a Social Work Professor and was very active in Laramie politics and social causes. Friend and former State Representative Matilda Hansen says he helped reform the mental health system in Wyoming and was involved in a variety of causes around Laramie.
"He was sensitive about injustice. And wherever injustice was, John raised his voice."
U-W History Professor Phil Roberts called Emmett Chisum the Google of the University of Wyoming. As the reference librarian at the University of Wyoming, most viewed him as the face of Coe Library for several years. He wrote a number of historical books and reference guides and received a special commendation from the American Association for State and Local History for researching and writing Wyoming history.
