Washington, DC – Federal funding could be made available to build a new visitor's center at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. Language in spending bill authored by Montana Senator Conrad Burns includes over 11 million dollars for the new visitor center along, and an almost equal amount for continuing renovations of the historic Old Faithful Inn. Senate aides say the current visitor center is inadequate for the huge flow of tourists that visit Old Faithful each year. The new center would also receive funding from the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Burns, a Republican, is chairman of the Senate subcommittee that approved the bill yesterday. The bill also would extend a law signed last year allowing winter snowmobile use in Yellowstone.
