Cheyenne, Wy – The Wyoming Senate Tuesday voted overwhelmingly against changes the House made to a bill strengthening the state's open container law.
The vote was 28-to-two against the House version, with some senators disliking an amendment that would ban all open containers -- except wine -- in recreational vehicles.
The measure, which had been approved 37-to-21 by the House, would require alcohol be kept out of the reach of the driver and passengers or be in its original unopened container.
Under current law, everybody but the driver is allowed to drink, except in cities that have stricter measures.
State law enforcement officials are concerned that drivers can simply hand over their drinks to a passenger if stopped.
A special committee will be appointed to try to work out differences.
