Laramie, Wyo. – Riverton's City Administrator Carter Napier says Proposition 2 would raise more than 29-million dollars through a one-percent sales tax.
The money would be spread across Fremont County and benefit road and sewer projects from Lander to Dubois. But Riverton clearly reaps the most reward. More than 8-million dollars would go to a 42-thousand square foot recreation center. Central Wyoming College would receive funds for a new nursing school.
Dubois resident Inez Brandt says that's not fair.
"It just seems like we kind of get pushed to the back burner sometimes," Brandt says.
Brandt and other opponents of Proposition 2 say the road and sewer projects in Dubois and other small communities in Fremont County are necessities, while Riverton gets the luxuries of new construction. Besides, Brandt says, plenty of her tax money already supports Central Wyoming College.
