Helena, MT – Yellowstone National Park officials want to reduce the number of snowmobiles allowed into the park each day.
The proposal is part of a pending winter management plan for Yellowstone.
Montana Sen. Jon Tester's office received a briefing today.
The park proposal calls for a daily limit of 540 snowmobiles. The current limit is 720.
The target is a disappointment for both sides of the debate about use of snowmobiles in Yellowstone.
Snowmobile critics hoped for a ban on the machines, or at least a very steep reduction. Supporters of snowmobiling in the park found the previous limit acceptable.
