Pay Raise for Teachers?

Lararmie, Wy – The State Superintendent of Public Instruction is proposing that the legislature increase salaries for teachers. Trent Blankenship presented a plan to lawmakers that he is calling the Teacher Excellence Package. Along with increasing salaries it would provide incentives to keep young teachers in Wyoming, help current educators do professional development and reward excellence.
Blankenship says he will work with the legislature to figure out how much money this package requires. He says roughly the raise will be five thousand dollars a year for two years. He says this is important because teacher salaries in Wyoming are below the national average. The Wyoming Education Association's president, Gary McDowell, says he supports this package and hopes the pay raise will be put into effect quickly.
