Powell, WY – Powell city leaders are advocating for an additional 1-cent county sales tax to meet growing financial needs. Any sales tax increase would have to be approved by Park County voters. Unlike most other counties in the state, Park County does not
impose an optional fifth-penny sales tax. During a meeting with leaders from the county, Cody and Meeteetse, Powell Mayor Scott Mangold argued for putting the sales
tax question to a vote. Mangold says Powell is having trouble keeping up with expenses for its golf course, aquatics center and streets. For the sales tax to be put before voters, at least two of the three municipalities and Park County commissioners would have to approve it.
