Cheyenne, WY – The State Senate's Revenue Committee has approved a property tax relief measure, despite the opposition of the committee chairman. Senator John Schiffer says the problem with the measure is that it is using money from a reserve account to provide property tax relief for homeowners. He says this comes at a time when the state faces uncertain finances.
The measure is intended to provide up to 300 dollars per year in tax relief for qualifying homeowners. Schiffer says there are other relief mechanisms for low income and elderly people who need help. The bill goes to the appropriations committee before it heads to the Senate floor for further debate.
