Laramie, Wy – Planned Parenthood in Casper is now offering a 30 minute H-I-V test. It is done by swabbing the inside of the cheek or taking a drop of blood from a finger. Planned Parenthood's Rebecca Pollack says the test costs 63 dollars and is available to anyone in Wyoming that is willing to come to the Casper office. She says the development of a rapid test is an important step because with the traditional test it takes two weeks to get results and sometimes people would not come back to find out if they have H-I-V or not.
For instance Planned Parenthood reports nationally 8,000 people get tested but don't return for their results each year. The funding for the rapid H-I-V test comes from grants and the fee for the exam. Pollock says it is confidential.
