Cheyenne, WY – The state House approved a bill that would allow police officers to pull over drivers for not wearing seat belts. The existing law is law enforcement can only issue a ticket for this if they pull someone over for a separate violation. The sponsor says this change would increase the number of people that wear seat belts. But, opponents like Representative Matt Teeters say it infringes on peoples' freedom. Teeters says each adult has the right not to wear a seat belt. The House will consider this bill again and then the Senate would also have to approve it.
