Laramie, WY – U.S. Senator John Barrasso reacted to the listing of the polar bear as a threatened species by saying that it could be economically devastating to Wyoming and the nation.
But Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne said that the decision should not be used to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles, power plants, and other sources. Polar bears are the first species affected by global warming to be protected by the Endangered Species Act.
