Cheyenne, WY – As expected, the state Senate's education committee changed the requirements for the Hathaway Scholarship. The House debated the requirements, then set them, so of the four tiers of scholarships to get the top two -- students would have to take harder courses. The bill then went to the Senate committee. Its members voted to require the more vigorous curriculum for all four tiers. State Superintendent, Jim McBride, says this is positive because it raises the bar for students. The Senate committee also voted for requiring two consecutive years of foreign language to get a scholarship.
