Senate Proposes Tax Breaks for Coal Gasification

Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming Senate gave initial approval to a bill that would make a tax break available to lure a Coal Gasification plant to Wyoming. Coal gasification is viewed as a huge economic opportunity for the state. Senator Bill Hawks of Casper warns that without the sales tax break the plant could go to another state. Hawks says the states in competition ARE offering tax breaks. But Senator Cale Case says Wyoming's sales tax rate is low enough and deals like this rarely pay off. Senators will discuss the bill two more times.
