Smoking Ban Challenged

Laramie, Wy – A complaint has been filed contesting the
city-wide vote approving of a ban on public smoking in Laramie.
The complaint by six Laramie residents was filed last Friday in
Albany County District Court. It names the city council and city
clerk.
It seeks to have the ordinance struck down because of failure to
comply with law governing special elections and referendums.
The ordinance, which passed by 366 votes in the November second
election, prohibits smoking in public places, including restaurants
and bars.
