Cheyenne, WY – The state legislature is moving forward with a massive telecommunications bill that is intended to regulate phone, internet and other communications services. The law was last updated in 1995. The legislature has been working on a new law for over two years, and on the first debate in the house, representatives gave it overwhelming support. Cheyenne Representative Pete Illoway notes that the bill has had a tough time in the past, because competing interests worked to kill it. But he says THIS version is loaded with compromises and will benefit consumers. There were concerns that the bill unfairly helped larger telecommunication companies, but many believe that portion of the bill has been fixed. It is currently getting support from some consumer groups as well. The bill will be debated two more times.
