Wind River, Wy –
A state lawmaker is encouraging residents of the Wind River Reservation to speak out against underage drinking and drug abuse. Representative Patrick Goggles says something must be done to protect children on the reservation. He says those who are frustrated at the lack of action among tribal leadership should feel free to speak up.
"I would not say to them quit speaking their minds. Our leadership is developing as well, and young tribal men and women need to come forward and help the older tribal members find solutions to these problems. "
Goggles is the only Native American in Wyoming's Legislature. He says he will turn to the state for money to help fund programs for teens, after three girls were found dead in tribal housing earlier this month.
