Survivalist Given Jailtime for Poaching

Lander, WY – A man who lived in the Wind River Mountains near Union Pass for a year and a half will spend 43 days in jail for numerous poaching violations. Former Worland resident John Russell will also have to pay $3,900 in fines and restitution, and had his hunting and fishing privileges revoked for 45 years. Authorities say the 55-year-old Russell had dropped out of society and was surviving in large part on game he poached, without a license and out-of-season in many instances. Russell was also fined more than $1,400 for breaking into a vehicle and stealing a gun.
