Cheyenne,Wy – A treatment system will be built to remove any trace of an industrial solvent getting into Cheyenne's water supply from a former Atlas missile site.
U.S. Sen. John Barrasso last week announced the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers will build the system to remove trichloroethylene,
which is better known as TCE.
Cost of the system that will break down the chemical by exposing
it to air was not immediately released. Long-term exposure to TCE
can lead to liver problems or cancer.
Barrasso said the new system could be operational as early as
the summer of next year.
The corps in 2008 confirmed the link between Cheyenne's water
supply and the former missile site.
