Senator Craig Thomas admits he is frustrated by the lack of movement to get the Grizzly Bear delisted. Thomas met with Wyoming Game and Fish officials and had a discussion (Monday) with Interior Secretary Gail Norton over why there has been no movement on delisting the Grizzly. Thomas thinks things that are gumming up the process go beyond politics. "I'm afraid that this thing is caught in the deep depths of bureaucracy, and my god...it has been 15 years since we have listed these bears. I am told that there may be 800 when the listed goal was 600." Thomas told Norton that this is precisely why he and many others are calling for reforms of the Endangered Species Law. He says the state and everyone is ready to manage the Grizzlies, but the federal government is dragging its feet.
