Laramie, Wy – A vote to unionize is scheduled for next week by workers at a trona mine in Sweetwater County.
Employees involved in the unionizing effort say that wages, seniority and health care are major issues. The National Labor Relations Board approved the vote.
It will be held Monday and Tuesday at union halls in Rock Springs and Green River to allow hourly employees of Solvay Chemical's underground trona mine and soda ash plant to decide if they want to be represented by the United Steelworkers of America.
The Steelworkers union represents more than one-thousand hourly workers at two other soda ash plants in the Green River Basin: F-M-C and General Chemical.
