Cheyenne, Wy –
For the first time ever over three million trucks passed through Wyoming is 2006 and officials expect that number to be even higher this year. But despite the increased truck traffic Wyoming ranked near of the bottom in the number of truck crashes with fatalities. Wyoming Department of Transportation Safety Officer Matt Carlson says that the numbers show that the state is as safe as anywhere when it comes to truck traffic, but he is not prepared to say that truckers are driving better. Instead he says safety measures and enforcement are lowering the fatality numbers. Carlson says improved seatbelt usage limiting impaired driving and slowing down in bad weather are still issues of concern.
