Cheyenne, WY – A bill to ban smoking in bars and restaurants across Wyoming seems to have more support in the legislature this year, but its proponents acknowledge they don't have enough votes to get it passed right now.
Jan Drury of the American Heart Association in Wyoming says that just means the campaign has more convincing to do: "We may have a vote count today but we feel like we're going to win this issue in this legislature, in this specific session."
Last year, a similar measure did not get enough votes to be introduced on the House floor. Opponents of the ban say it takes away personal freedom and will hurt some bars financially. They say there are plenty of smoke-free establishments already. Similar smoking ban measures have been rejected by the legislature in the past.
