Laramie, WY – Uranium prices are skyrocketing worldwide, and Wyoming is seeing some increased interest in its uranium. Market prices are up around $140 a pound, as compared to $10 a pound in 2000. Marion Loomis directs the Wyoming Mining Association. He predicts Wyoming will be producing more uranium soon.
"There's a number of junior companies that are just getting started, there have been six of them that have joined the Wyoming Mining Association in the last year. I would think we would see significant increased production in five years," Loomis said.
Loomis says at their peak, Wyoming mines produced 12 million pounds of uranium a year. Currently production is around two million pounds a year.
