Laramie, Wy – The University of Wyoming is one of the greenest campuses in the nation. That's according to a new guide published by the Princeton Review, which lists the 286 greenest colleges and universities in the U.S. U-W has a focus on sustainability through its Environment and Natural Resources program, and many other disciplines are incorporating ideas about environmental responsibility. The university is also making green infrastructure improvements. Jim Scott heads the U-W physical plant and co-chairs the Campus Sustainability Committee.
"We are doing lighting upgrades and working through our infrastructure to make it more efficient and in the water conservation we use low-flow fixtures in the restrooms and those kinds of things."
Scott says new construction is also following sustainability standards. All of that is with the aim of cutting U-W's greenhouse gas emissions significantly by 2015. The university is aiming to be carbon neutral by the year 2050.
