Laramie, WY – A technical problem wiped out Verizon wireless service for most customers in Wyoming and northern Colorado this morning. Verizon spokesman Bob Kelly says it was a software problem in their switcher.
"We had an interruption in our switch in Colorado, which affected voice calling and text messaging in our network in outstate Colorado and a good portion of Wyoming. "
Kelly says company officials were first alerted this (Thursday) morning at two and they spent several hours trying to correct the problem. Verizon is Wyoming's largest cell phone carrier. Emergency officials say the snafu did not affect 9-1-1 service.
