Laramie, WY – Firefighters stopped a wind-driven wildfire that threatened a subdivision near Lander.
Rural Fire Chief Dan Oakley says the fire started at a private recreational area about 12:30 yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
Strong winds of about 40 miles an hour drove it toward a subdivision and two homes were evacuated.
However, Oakley says firefighters stopped the fire short of any homes when the wind died down early in the evening.
The fire was controlled by 7 p.m.
Oakley says one unoccupied barn was destroyed and a firefighter was treated and released for smoke inhalation.
He had no estimate on the number of acres burned.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Oakley indicated initial evidence points to a campfire.
