Cody, Wy – A Powell woman was killed in a tragic accident
during Monday's Cody Stampede Parade.
Lynda Peters was riding in the parade Monday when her horse got
spooked and bolted. Before help could get to her, the horse fell
and rolled over Peters.
She died Monday night after being flown to Saint Vincent
Hospital in Billings, Montana. Park County Coroner Tim Power says
the cause of death was "massive head trauma."
Witnesses told the Powell Tribune that the horse was skittish
from the beginning. It wasn't clear what spooked the horse, but
once it took off running, outriders were unable to get to it before
it slipped and fell at an intersection.
A moment of silence was observed during Tuesday's parade in
remembrance of Peters.
