Laramie, Wy – Wyoming became the first state to endorse
the nine-point-four billion purchase of PacifiCorp by MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company.
The purchase which was approved unanimously by the state Public
Service Commission Thursday. It still needs the approval of regulators in five other states in which PacifiCorp operates.
The buyout was tied to an agreement reached last week among the two utilities, large industrial users and consumer advocates. The agreement contains provisions to soften future customer rate hikes and possibly boost export of Wyoming energy.
In addition, the agreement commits the utilities to study new transmission lines and power plants, increase use of Wyoming wind power and other renewable energy sources and improve customer service.
