Laramie, Wy – Communities around the state are spreading out the celebrations of Earth Day. It is officially Friday but events marking the 35th anniversary of Earth Day will continue over the next week. In Jackson the Spring Earth Festival is underway and lasts until April 30th. In Laramie events have been going on all week and continue. University of Wyoming Environment and Natural Resource Club member, Joe Herbst says it is important to mark the anniversary to develop awareness about sustainability issues.
Herbst says at U-W some new environmental efforts are underway. The school is going to buy bikes for students that cannot afford them. They can check out the bikes for a semester. Students are also urging people to turn off computers on campus when they're not in use to save energy.
